The bike’s assistance settings are controlled via a small handlebar-mounted LCD screen, allowing riders to easily switch between different modes to suit their riding style. The five assistance modes include Eco, Touring, Sport, Sport Plus, and Boost, each providing a unique level of electrical assistance.
Riding Experience
I had the opportunity to test the Volt Connect Electric Bike on a local cycling route, which featured steep inclines, smooth roads, gravelled tracks, and lush Scottish scenery. The bike performed impressively, providing a comfortable and enjoyable ride for my wife and me. Despite forgetting to recharge the battery, she was able to cycle 2.6 miles without electric assistance, demonstrating the bike’s impressive range and versatility.
Charging the battery from empty to full took 2.5 hours, and the screen showed 82km (51 miles) afterwards. With the battery charged, we were able to tackle gravel and hill climbing with ease, thanks to the bike’s powerful motor and suspension system.
The Suntour NX1 steel spring suspension with lockout provided a smooth ride, even on rough terrain, while the Shimano Deore derailleur system shifted smoothly, even when climbing steeper hills. The nine-speed system was a great asset, allowing riders to tackle a variety of terrain with ease.
Charging and Range
Charging the battery from empty to full took 2.5 hours, and the screen showed 82km (51 miles) afterwards. The bike’s range is impressive, with up to 80 miles claimed on a single charge. However, riders can switch between different displays on the LCD screen to monitor the battery’s power draw and range, ensuring they can plan their rides accordingly.
During our test, the bike experienced an eight per cent battery drop over eight kilometres (5 miles), which is a reasonable loss considering the headwind and rider weight.
Verdict
The Volt Connect Electric Bike is a great bit of kit, with its impressive range, smooth gears, and powerful motor. However, there are a few minor drawbacks, such as the LCD display occasionally refusing to turn on and the seat being quite firm. Nevertheless, Volt’s two-year warranty and the bike’s versatility make it an excellent choice for riders seeking a hassle-free cycling experience.
