Trans-Himalayan LRM 1200KM Cycling Challenge

The Trans-Himalayan LRM 1200KM Cycling Challenge was an extraordinary event, organized by the French Delhi Randonneurs, and took place from March 21 to 24, 2025. The challenge pushed participants to their limits, requiring them to cover a 1200-kilometre route from Gurgaon (New Delhi) to Manali and back. This epic journey involved an ascent of 13,000 metres, making it one of the toughest cycling challenges globally.

  • Key locations on the route included Panipat, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Sundernagar, Mandi, Pandoh Dam, Kullu, Manali, and Solang Valley.
  • The challenge took place over three days, with participants facing extreme heat, headwinds, steep mountain climbs, and temperatures as low as 0-2°C.
  • Only four cyclists were able to complete the demanding course, with Professor Suresh Kumar Paswan emerging as one of the top performers.

One of the most impressive aspects of this challenge was Professor Paswan’s ability to endure such harsh conditions. He had been rigorously training on tough mountain routes such as Wangchu Point and Jam Gate for months, and it was clear that his preparation had paid off. Paswan’s impressive endurance had been demonstrated on various previous challenges, including the Super Randonneur series, the Goa to Rameswaram challenge, and the Indore-Malegaon-Bhopal-Indore route.

  1. Professor Paswan has completed the Super Randonneur series five times.
  2. He has finished the Goa to Rameswaram challenge in 89 hours.
  3. He has completed the Indore-Malegaon-Bhopal-Indore route in 74 hours.
  4. Over the past two and a half years, he has cycled nearly 20,000 kilometres.

Despite these impressive credentials, Professor Paswan is now setting his sights on an even greater challenge – the prestigious London-Edinburgh-London (1540 km) race. He is building on his success, with training and funding support from SGSITS, and is confident that he can tackle this new and demanding route. “
